The annual meeting of Swindon Borough Council and the formal induction of the town’s mayor for 2015 to 2016 took place at the Civic Offices on Friday 22 May.
The Mayor is Andrew Bennett, Conservative councillor for Ridgeway, and his deputy is Eric Shaw, Conservative councillor representing Chiseldon & Lawn.
During his year in office the Mayor is supporting two charities: Swindon Cancer & Leukaemia Movement (CALM) and Friends of Swindon Young Musicians which supports a wide range of music education for young people in the town.
The new Mayor thanked his predecessor councillor Teresa Page (Penhill & Upper Stratton) for her exta effort in the role, presenting her with a medal which all those who have served the town wear on civic occasions. Coun Page was appointed deputy mayor in May 2013 but took on more commitments from November that year when that year’s Mayor Coun Nick Martin (Shaw & Nine Elms) reduced duties due to ill health. She was assisted by another previous mayor coun Mick Bray.
