Former Ridgeway School pupil, Georgie Ashford, has been quietly building a reputation for herself as an outstanding Musical Theatre talent, since graduating in 2011 from Arts Educational schools in London with an Honours Degree in Musical Theatre, writes Mark Hows.
After landing prime rolls in top West End shows like Legally Blonde and the legendary A Chorus Line, she has also performed at the Proms, a 10th anniversary show of the Madness musical, Our House, and the hit show Singing in the Rain.
Now touring the country with top showman Brian Conley in the hit Cameron Macintosh show, Barnum, Georgie hit the stage this week at the Liverpool Empire Theatre, playing the part of opera singer, Jenny Lind, to rave reviews.
Liverpool Sound & Vision states: “the beautiful haunting voice of Georgie Ashford as Swedish Opera singer Jenny Lind filling the whole auditorium of the Empire Theatre too almost gigantic proportions”
The Liverpool Echo proclaimed Ashford’s performance to be Garbo-esque, a reference to Greta Garbo in her heyday, praise indeed for the 24 year-old Swindon star.
After finishing this weekend in Liverpool, Georgie and the Barnum cast will be appearing make in Plymouth, Southampton, Canterbury, Birmingham and Salford, before finishing the shows run at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff in August.
What next is the question for this up and coming young actress, as the future certainly looks bright so far.
