Pub brands Crown Carveries, Sizzling Pubs and O’Neill’s are joining forces to help raise much needed funds for charity, Help for Heroes, through the launch of a host of new initiatives ahead of Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27th June.
The trio kicked started their fundraising effort back in October 2014, by working with the PLB group to stock two Help for Heroes wines, with £1 from every bottle sold going to the cause, raising £45,000 so far. This has given them the appetite to raise more and have set a target of £100,000 which they hope to reach by the end of the year.
Locally in Swindon, The Village Inn at Shaw Village Centre, Ramleaze Drive, Shaw SN5 5PY will be participating in the big fundraising effort.
The money raised will be used to support a wounded, injured and sick members of the Armed Forces, Veterans and their families. Help for Heroes estimates that up to 34% of individuals deployed between 2001 and 2014 will need support in the future. With the donation Help for Heroes funds four Recovery Centres across the country as well as offering immediate financial support for those with life-changing injuries or illness.
As well as fundraising initiatives the brands are giving back to Armed Forces and their families by partnering with the Defences Discount Card which gives Armed Forces members, spouses and veterans 10% off their food bill at any of the three pub chains. As the official discount service for the Armed Forces, the Defence Community and Veterans, the card is also available to members of the community not previously supported, including spouses and partners of serving personnel.
Over 73,500 cards are currently in circulation across the UK since the launch, and this number is continuing to grow on a monthly basis.
Rob Pitcher, Brand Operations Director for Crown Carveries, Sizzling Pubs & O’Neill’s, said: “Community spirit and bringing families and friends together is a core value for our pubs and Help for Heroes is an amazing charity that reflects this. Through our fundraising events across the country, Help for Heroes wine and Defences Discount card we hope to get everyone involved across a multitude of channels resulting in lots of money raised and quality time for Armed Forces families, for who the gift of time together is vitally important.”
Clive Smith, Ambassador for Help for Heroes, commented: “Help for Heroes is an incredible charity and one that is dear to my heart. As a consequence of their help, eternal positive attitude and constant support, I was able to adjust to life outside the Forces and spend more quality time with my family, and for that I’m truly thankful. This new fundraising initiative makes it easy for anyone to make a difference, whether they’re catching up with friends or sitting down to a meal with their family, every pound raised really does mean so much.”
