It is with immense pleasure and unlimited pride that The White Horse Federation has announced Mrs Lauren Costello (née Connor) Managing Director and co-founder, was awarded the OBE, Order of the British Empire ‘For Services to Education’ in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, writes federation project manager Liz Matthews.
This is a long overdue award for a school leader who was Swindon’s first National Leader of Education, NLE, first Executive Headteacher and who currently is the vice- chair of the DfE’s Primary Headteacher Reference Group.
In addition, Mrs Costello has overseen the school improvement journey of many Swindon schools often taking them from an unenviable Ofsted grading of “Inadequate” or “Special Measures” to at least “Good” and more often “Outstanding”.
Speaking of his colleague’s award Dr Nicholas Capstick, WHF CEO said: ” I cannot tell you how pleased and delighted I am for Lauren. For over 12 years she has worked tirelessly as a headteacher for schools, their children and parents in Swindon and this award could not be more deserving. She is a great school leader, clear educational thinker but most of all a compassionate and caring colleague and Headteacher who puts others way before herself. Swindon should be proud today where Lauren has led in the past the rest of us have followed, she broke new ground in this town.”
Mr Joss Jarvis, chair of The WHF Board of Directors, said, “Great news for someone I am proud to call a friend and colleague. I’ve known Lauren for many, many years and throughout that time she has been a selfless and consummate school leader. She never stops working on behalf of the children, staff and parents of our schools and we are very lucky to have her as part of our leadership team, I am so very proud of her.”
