The members and staff of Swindon based social enterprise Charity Phoenix was shocked to suddenly learn in early June that they have until the end of July before they must leave their current premises at Star West on the Westmead Industrial Estate in West Swindon.
For 14 years Phoenix Enterprises has successfully helped a range of people recovering from mental health issues, learning and physical disabilities back into mainstream employment – but now face the prospect of closing down if they are unable to find another workshop space.
They are calling on the people of Swindon, especially in the business community, to help them find new accommodation. Phoenix chairperson Emma Rees said: “There are many empty business units around the town, presumably costing their owners business rates. But if they housed a charity such as Phoenix the property would be exempt from the rates as well as earning some rental income.”
If you know of someone that may have a vacant business unit of around 1,000 square feet that could be available for Phoenix’s use contact Tracy on 01793 719103 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
