A Swindon woman has made it to the final of a national competition to find the UK’s best friend. She has a great story!
Louise Callcut, 32, from Swindon, has reached the final of the Best Friend of the Year competition after nominating her best friend, Becky Harris, 34, a born and bred Swindon resident. The two friends first met 15 years ago, went through pregnancy together and aunty each other’s children.
Louise’s story captured the attention of the judges in a light-hearted way, when she revealed the evening they met through their husbands, who both work at Bathwick Tyres. The four of them arranged a night out at a local Swindon nightclub. When Louise came bounding over to introduce herself to Becky, her top came down to reveal a little more than she had initially planned. Ever since, the pair have done almost everything together.
The Best Friend of the Year UK competition was launched by tombola, the sponsor of ITV’s Loose Women, who recently launched the campaign together to find the country’s Best Friend of the Year
Louise is one of twelve finalists, selected from more than 350 entries, who were whisked off to London on 8th June – National Best Friend Day – on an all-expenses paid trip to watch the live filming of ITV’s Loose Women. After the show, Louise and the other finalists enjoyed afternoon tea with the Loose Women presenters. The overall winner will receive an experience day worth £500, to share with his or her best friend.
When it comes to friendship, recent findings, in a survey conducted by tombola, revealed that in a world where we seem to have many acquaintances, the average number of close friends for a UK adult in Swindon is 4. Other findings include:
– People in the South West Region rank highest for rating ‘being a good listener’ and ‘always being there for you’ as the most important friendship qualities, showing that Swindon people need a supportive best friend.
– In today’s social media heavy world, the South West region are the most likely to interact with their best friends on social media everyday, more than any other regions.
