Marie Wilkes and three friends who live in North Swindon are in training to take on the Tough Mudder course in Cirencester on 22 August to raise £2,000 for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
Marie’s 9 year old son Nick Wilkes was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in February and the following months have been particularly hard for him as well as his whole family.
Nick now has to be careful with everything he eats to keep his blood sugar in the correct range and give himself at least four injections daily to maintain stable levels of insulin in his body.
Marie said: “Tough Mudder is a 10 to 12 mile obstacle race through challenging conditions which frightens the life out of all of us. But we need to raise as much money as we can for JDRF; please help us with sponsorship.”
