Golfers and the public still have time to comment on a major project to develop Broome Manor Golf Complex prior to an application for planning which was submitted this summer.
Twigmarket Ltd, who took over running of Swindon’s golf facilities in November 2014, showcased their ideas at a public consultation in July.
The proposals include a 50 bedroom golf hotel extension to the clubhouse, an enlarged golf shop which would be leased to a leading golf retailer, and an 18 hole pirate themed Adventure Golf Course. In addition, the Petanque Pitch will be moved to a better location overlooking the course and the number car parking spaces will be increased by relocating the greenkeepers buildings.
The development plans were originally set out in the Twigmarket Business Plan submitted to Swindon Borough Council at the time of the bid to takeover golf facilities in late 2013.
Twigmarket director Jeremy Sturgess commented: “We had hoped to bring forward these plans earlier but it’s taken considerable time to put together particularly as we had to wait until Spring before carrying out the reptile and Great Crested Newt surveys”
“These plans are essential to Twigmarket’s strategy of diversifying the revenue streams from the site to cross subsidise the Golf Revenues which are in structural decline throughout the UK so securing the long term financial viability of the complex, which had been under threat of closure as Council losses mounted”
Since taking over Broome Manor Twigmarket has invested over £200,000 in altering the clubhouse layout to provide a new golf reception and the Cafe for Golfers as well as a new gym. Memberships at £16.95 per month is also proving popular. These further plans will represent a total investment of over £3 million in the complex. Assuming planning permission is granted works should commence in 2016.
