“Wilde Without the Boy” is Gareth Armstrong’s award-winning dramatisation of “De Profundis”, the searingly passionate love letter Oscar Wilde wrote to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, from his cell in Reading gaol. Two years previously, Wilde had been sentenced to two years hard labour for ‘…acts of gross indecency with other males…’
The piece is performed by Gerard Logan (Olivier Nominee – RSC), who won The Stage “Best Solo Performer of the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Award” for his acclaimed performance in Gareth Armstrong’s production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Rape of Lucrece’. Gerard went on to win the “Best Actor” award at the 2014 Buxton Fringe Festival for his performance in ‘Wilde Without the Boy’ and the show completely sold-out during this year’s Edinburgh Festival.
“…The gods had given me almost everything….Whatever I touched I made beautiful…..I summed up all systems in a phrase, and all existence in an epigram…” Oscar Wilde, ‘De Profundis’.
“…Logan inhabits the stage with a Titanic presence…”
Daily Info, Oxford.
“…Gerard Logan’s performance is the most beautiful and honest tribute to a literary treasure…”
