Swindon retirees and their relatives joined former British Olympic champion, Dame Mary Peters CH DBE RNR, yesterday to celebrate the official opening of McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living development, Blunsdon Court.
The development, which is already over 50% sold, is made up of 24 one and two bedroom retirement apartments and set within a quiet residential area, making it the perfect setting to relax and enjoy your retirement. What’s more, Blunsdon Court is only a stone’s throw away from the historic Lydiard Park as well as local amenities including the Orbital Shopping Centre which boasts a Marks and Spencers, Next and ASDA along with many more local amenities.
After enjoying a guided tour of the show apartments and communal areas, Dame Mary, who won the pentathlon gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games, marked the official opening with a talk on her experiences as an Olympian and sporting ambassador, before enjoying a bite to eat and a glass of bubbly to celebrate. One visitor, Brenda Murphy, also proved to be a familiar face for Dame Mary, having competed against her back in the 1960s.
Dame Mary Peters said: “It was a pleasure to mark the official opening of the new development at Blunsdon Court and bump into old friends, too! I’ve been an ambassador for McCarthy and Stone for many years now, and I know from homeowners who have already settled into the development how much they enjoy the quality of surroundings and friendly staff there. It was so lovely to get the opportunity to meet and chat with people from the local area. Blunsdon Court really is developing into such a fun and lively community. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!”
The event enabled those people interested in finding out more about life at Blunsdon Court, and who have perhaps considered downsizing, to see for themselves how they could enjoy their retirement in a quality, low maintenance one or two bedroom apartment, and enjoy all the benefits of being part of its thriving community.
Exclusively for the over 60s, McCarthy and Stone’s Retirement Living developments are designed to offer homeowners the very best in independent living within a safe and secure environment, with the opportunity to benefit from companionship when they want it, and privacy when they need it.
Kim Caldwell, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for McCarthy and Stone, commented: “We were so thrilled to welcome Dame Mary Peters and potential homeowners to Blunsdon Court. At McCarthy and Stone we are proud to help older people stay independent for longer and really make the most of their retirement.
“That is why we are so committed to delivering an exceptional lifestyle for our residents at Blunsdon Court, which boasts a beautiful setting with landscaped gardens, and luxuriously appointed accommodation. What’s more, with all the maintenance of all external and communal areas taken care of, homeowners can spend more time enjoying their retirement with family and friends.”
Facilities at Blunsdon Court include a homeowners’ lounge, ideal for socialising with friends, an outside patio in which to relax, and a convenient guest suite should homeowners have friends or relatives to stay. The development also benefits from its very own House Manager, who ensures the smooth running of the development, a security entrance system, plus 24 hour emergency call points – for added peace of mind for both homeowners and their families.
