Some 40 volunteers gave up their Sunday on 15 November to help Supermarine FC put up a 70 metre by 47 metres inflatable cover over an existing all weather 3G pitch.
The German designed structure manufactured in Slovakia provides an excellent indoor training and playing surface available at all hours, even in the worst weather. It can be configured with three pitches separated by nets or as one large pitch.
Supermarine chairman Jez Webb: “I took the decision early on to invest in having a rubber shock pad installed under the actual playing surface. This provides the players with a wonderful comfortable playing experience and more importantly it is proven that it imposes less stress on ligaments and joints.
“The system is state of the art and is exactly the same as Watford Academy and also Standard Liege in Belgium.
“Thanks to all the volunteers who came along on Sunday to help the dome rise from the ground and all the wonderful sponsors who support Supermarine.”
For marketing purposes the new facilities has been branded The Swindome. It will be available for use in early January. For details about the dome and upcoming Supermarine games, see www.swindonsupermarinefc.com
