Local businessman James Phipps has joined Trust STFC as a board member, looking to help expand the reach of the fans’ group.
The two-time Wiltshire Business Person of the Year shook hands with Chairman Steve Mytton (pictured left) as he was welcomed to the board.
Excalibur already sponsors many of Swindon’s sports teams including the Wildcats ice hockey team, where Mr Phipps is a non-executive director, and he has openly been looking forward to getting involved with Trust STFC.
Mr Phipps also owns Positive Media Group, which includes The Ocelot arts and entertainment magazine and The Business Exchange magazine and Swindon Link.
He said: “I have been a Town fan for over 30 years and seen the ups and downs.
“A strong, dynamic and capable Trust board is good for the fans, good for STFC and I look forward to bringing my business and sports experience to the board and hopefully adding to the great work already done by the Trust to date.
“I believe the fans need Trusts more than ever to represent them and should be the ultimate guardians for any club as owners come and go over a period of time.
“If we get it right off the pitch then hopefully success will come on it.”
Chairman Steve Mytton said: “”We approached James a few weeks back and were delighted when he accepted the offer to come onto the Trust board. We were impressed with the way he supports Swindon initiatives and local sport, and he’s a fantastic addition to our team.
“He also brings a vast array of contacts, and we’re hopeful that together we can open doors within the local business community and bring the football supporters of Swindon closer together with the local businesses around the Town and surrounding area. There are exciting times ahead!”
