ATBShop Skate Warehouse is holding a half term charity day in support of keen skater Reece Vellender who suffers from a grave and rare genetic eye problem.
Reece, nearly 8, has soft tissue in the zonules of his right eye; they’re the tiny elastic bands which keep you lens in place. This part of his eye is weak and he cannot hold his eye lens open correctly. Reece has already had his left natural eye lens removed and his right eye lens is now subluxated.
Reece needs to visit Great Ormond Street for Sick Children every three months for the rest of his young life until he’s an adult when he will have to continue this quarterly treatment as an adult at another hospital, unless a cure is found.
If Reece didn’t attend GOSH for regular treatment he would go completely blind.
ATBShop hopes to raise much needed funds for GOSH as the hospital needs to raise £90 million a year to keep them at the forefront of pediatric care.
Mum Kim Vellenda has been raising money for GOSH for quite some time and this fun day is a fantastic way to give something back to the hospital that has given Reece so much.
ATBShop holds a charity day each half term holiday for various different charity’s and has been raising thousands for good causes for several years. Parents and young members will be joining in by making the cakes
for the bake sale. There’s always some stiff competition from the parents who treat our half term charity day as the Great British Bake off.
VW Commercials Swindon heard about Reece’s plight and is helping by offering a weekend’s use of a top of the range VW T6 Transporter in the ATBShop auction for GOSH.
