Around 300 people came to see what Swindon Register Office can offer couples who are planning to tie the knot at its first-ever wedding fayre on Sunday 7 February.
Visitors packed into the Civic Offices in Euclid Street on Sunday 7 February to enjoy a wedding fashion show and the opportunity to chat to expert Register Office staff who organised the first ever event to take place there. Where councillors sit, argue, make party points and toss the occasional insult at each other, couples and mothers in law sat and watched models parading the latest in wedding wear, whilst the front entrance and polished wood pannelled side corridors of the building were dressed to impress.
Visitors were also shown around the Register Office’s three wedding ceremony rooms at the council office venue:
More than 30 local businesses, including photographers, cake-makers and bridal shops, attended the fayre, giving people looking to organise a wedding day of their dreams all they needed to do so under one roof.
Mamie Beasant, Swindon Borough Council’s Superintendent Registrar – pictured above – said: “It was a fantastic day – a really huge success – and it was brilliant to get such positive feedback from visitors about our beautiful ceremony rooms.
“People said they were bowled over by the range and number of exhibitors we had at the fayre, which meant that there were several photographers and cake-makers on hand for couples to chat to and to find out what was on offer from them.
“We took several bookings for our ceremony rooms and we look forward to welcoming the couples here for their big day.”
