Positive Media Group, which publishes Swindon Link, The Swindon & Wiltshire Business Exchange and The Ocelot, has appointed Julian Barlow as the new non-executive chairman.
Formed in April 2015, the group has been steadily expanding with its titles covering Swindon, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire.
Owner James Phipps said: “We are delighted to welcome Julian to the team. His experience of publishing both in the UK and the United States will prove invaluable as we continue to expand. He is perfectly placed to offer strategic advice and guidance which will help us build on the group’s successes.”
Julian brings with him knowledge of print and digital publishing acquired over the course of his career which began as a journalist on regional newspapers in the West Country. He later travelled to New York State to earn a Masters’ degree in Newspaper Communications and to work on National Public Radio.
With the majority of his career spent in the UK, Julian has been a regular contributor to regional publications as well as national titles such as The Times and the Daily Mirror before going on to hold high profile marketing and public relations roles within firms such as United Biscuits and Interior Services Group.
For the past 15 years he has owned a highly regarded public relations company based in Wiltshire, which works with high profile clients including Olympian Steve Redgrave, pharmaceutical giants Johnson & Johnson and Bayer, as well as chemists Lloyds Pharmacy and construction and property consultants Gleeds.
He said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as the first ever non-executive chairman for Swindon’s fastest growing media provider. Positive Media Group’s fantastic stable of titles has already developed a strong presence in the area but I am confident that my knowledge and experience will contribute towards extending its regional profile going forward.”
