Ross Mackenzie of Firebird Films Ltd. with help from cameraman Tom Sykes at solo16 have helped expose TV camera hire fraudster Luke Wiggan and ensured his illegal activities won’t be seen on the streets for the next year.
In the secret set up, Ross was approached by a guy wanting to hire his broadcast camera. Wiggan was trying to hire Ross’s camera kit under a false name so he could steal it. He had already stolen around £15,ooo worth of equipment from another company
Ross has found out the man had been stealing broadcast cameras so he set a trap to allow Swindon Police to arrest him live on camera.
On 22 February, at Woolwich Crown Court, Luke Wiggan pleaded guilty to:
Two counts of POSSESSION OF AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT WITH IMPROPER INTENTION,
POSSESSION OF AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT WITH IMPROPER INTENTION,
THEFT & FRAUD.
Luke Wiggan was sentenced to 3 x 8 months imprisonment concurrent and was sent to prison for 12 months.
Thankfully one of the people who Wiggan stole equipment from got his camera back, thanks to Ross’s involvement.
