A multi-agency exercise, organised by Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and involving Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, Great Western Ambulance Service and Swindon Borough Council is taking place this Sunday.
Months of planning have gone into organising this high risk missing person search scenario to ensure that organisations involved have good knowledge and understanding of each other’s capabilities and can coordinate with each other in a rapidly changing situation.
The exercise will start at 9am from the Police Point in West Swindon, opposite Link Centre, and will escalate into a search at Lydiard Park. WILSAR volunteers will arrive when their specialist support is required, and will quite possibly include a search of the lake in the park. The exercise is expected to be over by 2pm, depending on how quickly the missing person is located.
A police spokeswoman said the public will notice emergency services activity in West Swindon on Sunday 6 March and people should realise that it is a training exercise testing the response of different organisations to a real-life situation.
