Teachers and parents at Millbrook Primary School, Freshbrook, have been protesting weekly on Gainsborough Way to highlight the need for a crossing point on the road.
Sue Thorn, who teaches at Millbrook, has been organising demonstrations at the major crossing points. She said: “When there is congestion on the main roads, we have many motorists using the smaller roads around the school as a cut-through, ignoring the 20mph speed limit and endangering our pupils. We don’t want a situation where we only get a crossing once an incident has occured.”
Freshbrook and Lydiards Councillor Tim Swinyard said: “As a school governor, I recognise there is a problem and I am arranging a meeting after Easter between the Millbrook School council and the cabinet member for highways Cllr Dale Heenan and highways officers to discuss the need for the crossing and how the council can respond as soon as possible.”
