Swindon Link magazine brought delight to four year old Lauren Penney from Rushey Platt when she was shown our latest edition featuring her picture on Sunday 28 February, the day before her first ‘birth’ day on 29 February.
Mum Anna had let us know earlier in the month that Lauren would be celebrating her special day for the first time since she was born at the Great Western Hospital Birthing Centre. She was the only ‘leapling’ baby to born on 29 February 2012 and the first born there as the facility had only recently been built.
Following our publication, on Monday 29th Lauren and Anna were interviewed on BBC Radio Wiltshire and also saw her picture the Swindon Advertiser.
Anna said: “Lauren was surprised and so excited to see her face and name in the Link on Sunday and showed everyone all day. She carried the magazine around with her for a fair few hours. It will definitely be going into her treasure box for her to look back on in the future. She was also really pleased when she saw her picture with her brother Cameron online on your website.”
Lauren donned up in her Cinderella dress with Peppa Pig top for a party at Wichelstowe Community Centre where she blew out a cake topped with a Number 1 candle. In common years Anna, husband Stewart, Lauren and two year old younger brother Cameron have held mini-parties for family and friends on 28 February and 1 March.
The joint party on 29 February marked both Lauren’s birthday and Cameron’s naming day, to celebrate his arrival into the world.
Anna said: “Lauren knows this year is important but doesn’t quite yet appreciate the difference in the astronomical year and calendar year. We all had a lovely, memorable party. Thank you ever so much to the Link for helping to make her first birthday so special.”
