The Community Fair at Twigs Community Gardens from 11am to 3pm is the place to go for people interested in finding out about key support services available in Swindon today.
Voluntary Action Swindon is organising the event in partnership with TWIGS (Therapeutic Work In Gardening in Swindon) Community Gardens with over 10 local charities and voluntary groups at this year’s event including Alzheimer’s Society, Cinnamon Trust, Developing Health & Independence, the Swindon Borough Council Health & Wellbeing Team, Let’s Loop Swindon, Patches, Reach Inclusive Arts, Swindon Carers Centre, Swindon Mind and Terrence Higgins Trust.
There will also be information available about Voluntary Action Swindon (VAS) which offers a wide variety of services which includes advice on fundraising and governance, printing services, DBS checks and room/equipment hire. It also support the local voluntary and community sector by administering forums, events and coalitions.
TWIGS (Therapeutic Work In Gardening in Swindon) which came into being in November 1997, was formed by a local lady who realised the therapeutic benefits that working with nature could bring to those experiencing mental health problems.
There is free entry to the event, free parking with access to the nearby Olive Tree Café who serve breakfasts, snacks and light lunches. The Little Redrooster Theatre Group will provide entertainment, with Craft sessions facilitated by TWIGS.
