A pink duck sporting shades and solar panels sponsored by Abundance Investment will be competing for the Business Challenge Shield at Wroughton’s annual Duck Race this Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May.
Abundance has partnered with Swindon Borough Council to launch the UK’s first Council Solar Bonds, which allow local people to invest from just £5 in Swindon Community Solar Farm at Common Farm Wroughton.
Bruce Davis, Managing Director, Abundance, said: “It might sound a bit quackers but we are helping Wroughton and Swindon become solar-powered and wanted to support this very popular local event. We’ve had fun with the decorating and really think our pink duck fits the bill. We’ll be hoping for sunny weather on Monday to ensure that the event goes swimmingly. We would like to reassure the other competitors that the solar-powered propeller underneath is just for show.”
The duck was decorated for Abundance by Wroughton resident Michelle Pridmore, using specialist paints from Holman’s in Swindon who matched the company’s distinctive pink branding perfectly. As well as carrying real solar panels on its back, the duck has been decorated with wildflowers inspired by the meadows that will be sown around the panels to promote biodiversity at the solar farm.
Meanwhile the solar bonds have already attracted over £1.4 million in investment, reaching 80% of the target. The bond offer is due to close on June 30th but will close early if the target is reached.
Wroughton’s Annual Duck Race takes place in the Willow-Brook Gardens on Monday 2nd May 2016 from 1pm.
