A new shop stocking a huge range of educational resources and toys with a clear educational purpose opened in early March and will be visited by North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson on Saturday 9 April.
Justin will cut the ribbon at midday, but there will be face painter present between 10am and 1pm, at Teach, Play, Learn which is located at Studley Grange Craft Village, next to Blooms Garden Centre, on Hay Lane, close to M4 Junction 16.
The shop is a physical offshoot of the successful Swindon business Primary Classroom Resources which has been trading online for almost ten years. Larissa Hughes, who set up the business with her husband Carl, said: “I’m primary teacher trained and I realised a long time ago that there was a need for website where teachers and parents could find interesting, innovative and proven material to extend children at different stages in their learning.
“When we started we actually ran a shop for about 18 months, but, with limited time and just the two of us, trying to grow the business online and respond to customers in a shop was too overwhelming. We’ve always wanted to run a shop for people in the Swindon area and now that the online operation is well established, we’ve taken the leap at Studley Grange which is ideal as it attracts a large number of families to the craft units, as well as the butterfly centre and small animal farm.
“We’ve had a great feedback since we opened on 9 March. So many parents have welcomed a place where they can see, try and talk to experts about learning resources, and not have to trail around a toy shop looking for purposeful material. We do sell toys for pre-school children but they have a clear educational purpose.
“We’ve called the shop Teach, Play, Learn for a more informal feel and to make it different to Primary Classroom Resources which could put some people off. They operate separately but under the Primary Classroom Resources umbrella.”
On Saturday Justin will cut the ribbon at 12noon. There will a face painter on hand between 10am and 1pm, and there will be cakes, balloons and a TENZI Tournament
