Staff from the Sports Department at New College have been working with three other education providers to help develop football coaching overseas.
New College Swindon, along with Barnet and Southgate College of Further and Higher Education, Doncaster College and University Centre and Stratford-upon-Avon College, are working together on ‘The UK-China Innovation Challenge Fund’. This project will focus on creating more football coaches in China and to raise participation levels over there.
Recently, Sports staff from New College travelled to Changsha in China, to build up relationships with senior leaders of Colleges and Schools. The visit gave staff the chance to seek out coaches who can then be trained on a special development programme through New College in October.
The £80,000 project will help support targets from the Chinese government, who hope to encourage 50 million people to play football by 2020 and to host and win the World Cup by 2050.
