Swindon Soup host their next event for community projects and charities at Arclite House in Peatmoor on Thursday 21 April.
Three local projects and charities will be pitching to win the money collected from the £5 entrance fee. The last winners, Swindon SUNS, walked away with over £500 from the audience vote.
Ann Mooney, Chair of Swindon SUNS, said: “When we received the email confirming that I could pitch at Swindon Soup for Service User Network Swindon (SUNS), your local independent registered mental health charity, I was quite excited and a little nervous as I didn’t know what to expect. I needn’t have worried about my nerves, everyone was so friendly and welcoming and instantly made everyone feel relaxed.
“My pitch was on promoting healthy eating in SUNS where we could show our members how to prepare and cook healthy meals and also show them that it is really not that expensive to eat healthy. Encouraging them to cook and invite family and friends to eat healthily with them, reducing the loneliness that so many face living alone. Learning a skill that they could also pass onto others helping to create the social lives that our members want.
“The evening was not just about the pitch, we were able to network with others there, and help people understand how the stigma around mental health effects its sufferers. We also received many pledges of help and that was just brilliant.
“We enjoyed our bowls of soup while listening to some lovely music and waiting for the vote’s to be counted. I was so surprised when it was announced we had won and would be taking the fundraising night donations back to SUNS!
“As we have already sourced the fresh food, we will be spending the money on buying equipment such as a hob, Microwave, Oven, Pots & Pans and Cooking Utensils etc.
“All in all it was a brilliant evening out, so much so that we would go back just for the experience of being there to support other local charities.”
