Local cycling enthusiast and Pride of Swindon award winner Ricardo Defazio is challenging himself and five team members to pedal their way from Swindon’s County Ground to the Camp Nou football stadium, home of FC Barcelona.
Ricardo and his team will be taking on the eight day bike ride to support several local charities including Prospect Hospice, Brighter Futures and Younite Outreach Project.
The ‘S2B4C’ team consists of Ricardo Defazio, Steve Summers, Steve Duff, Louise Eggleton, Vanessa Ryman and Peter Woolley and will take on the task of riding almost 1000 miles from Monday 11 April.
Ricardo said: “In the last 12 months I have run a bootcamp club for the community. Every other month we hold an all day event which brings people together and helps raise around £400 for a different local charity.
“This time we want to raise money in the thousands with one big challenge. We will be riding about 120 miles each day for eight days from Swindon to Barcelona.
”We have cycling groups along the way who want to join us for sections, which is incredible. We are meeting up with John Smith, a Swindon Cycling club member, in Saint Martin Sainte Catherine, France, and then we cycle over the Pyrenees into Spain with a group called the Bike-breakers. We should have 30 or more people in a peloton over the mountains and maybe even into Barcelona itself.
“We’ve received incredible support from Hargroves Cycles, who have fettled the bikes free of charge and supplied parts at cost price, and given us training on how to repair each others bikes whilst we are on the road.”
