Computer courses aimed at beginners, which have been organised by Swindon Libraries, have proved so popular additional sessions will be running over the coming months.
Places are now available on four further ‘Exploring the Internet for Beginners’ courses, which will run between May and July. The free courses will take place in Central, North Swindon, Highworth and West Swindon libraries.
The sessions are a great way to explore using the internet in a safe, fun and friendly atmosphere. Aimed at beginners, they will take participants through the basics of how to use a mouse and keyboard, moving on to how to find information on the internet, shop safely online and using an e-mail account.
There are seven sessions; each delivered one morning a week. The courses work at the pace of the learner and there is always a tea break available to enable those taking part to have a chat and relax.
No previous experience of computers is necessary and all people of all ages can take part either by using their own tablet or laptop, but library computers will be available. The groups are small and are run by qualified trainers.
There are also no exams or tests, just lots of support and encouragement in a friendly atmosphere.
Recent learners said the following after completing the courses:
- “I now have confidence. I can use the mouse and keyboard and access the internet. Will consider buying a PC”
- “I knew nothing when I started and now I am trying things on my own. It’s great”
- “I sometimes feel that I haven’t understood it and then it all seems to make sense suddenly. The hand outs are great”
- “I feel much more confident. I have learnt how to use the keyboard and mouse and how to access the internet. The trainer is helpful and has allowed for my deafness. Having the hearing device and other support in place at the start of every session has been lovely. I did not feel different or awkward, just comfortable and able to get on with learning”
