On Monday 23 May, pupils in Years 3 – 8 at Prior Park Prep School in Cricklade, ran their very own Race for Life around the School field.
Supported by family, friends and staff – many of whom took part themselves – children in Years 3 – 4 ran 1 mile, Years 5 – 6 ran 1.5 miles and Years 7 – 8 ran 2 miles.
Asked if they know of someone who had suffered with cancer in advance of the race, the vast majority of pupils raised their hand and were delighted to have the opportunity to take part in such an event. To date, the school has almost doubled their initial target of £750, raising a fantastic £1,353 for Cancer Research! Donations can still be made online via www.justgiving.com/priorparkprep until Friday 10 June.
Miss Emily Bird, PE Teacher and organiser of the school’s Race for Life commented: “The children had a brilliant time competing in the sunshine! We have been overwhelmed with the generosity and support of family and friends.”
As part of the School’s wider charity initiative, Prior Park Prep runs a charity committee called HOPIN; Helping Other People In Need. Fundraising activities (sponsored challenges, fairs, sales etc) are organised to support a selection of charities that have been chosen by the children; Prospect Hospice, BALA children’s centre in Kenya, Save the Children, Smile Train, Helen & Douglas House and Stellenbosch DR Mother Church Bursary Fund. Other charities are also supported as they arise and in aid of special events such as the Race for Life.
