Rotary Club of Swindon Phoenix is calling on businesses, sports groups and charities to assemble crews to take part in next year’s dragon boat racing challenge.
The 2016 event takes place at Coate Water on Sunday 26 June. It’s the fourth year the club has organised the big fundraiser. At the beginning of May they had 13 crews entered; they’re looking for at least six more.
Teams must have a minimum of 17 participants, aged at least 12. In each race there are 16 rowers and one is the drummer who beats out the paddle rhythm, but a two or three reserve team members is recommended.
Rotary Club event coordinator John Fisher said: “The event is very competitive but a fun day out for supporters watching the heats with varied stalls on site, a dog show, rides for the children, as well as food halls and beer tent. Our main sponsorsDick Lovett BMW/Mini will be on site displaying vehicles and Coate Water park is a lovely place to walk around.
“The challenge can be both a team building exercise or a great way for teams to raise money for charities of their choice. Once a team signs up to take part the Rotary Club of Swindon Phoenix will set up a ‘Just Giving’ page for the members of the boat to collect sponsorship.”
