Westlea Church is looking to enhance the Westlea area by regular litter picks starting on Saturday 21 May.
Eight church members covered three areas including the play area near Moresby Close, Westlea Drive and the path that runs between Asda and the school, and came back with 8 sacks of rubbish now consigned to the tip (apart from the cans for recycling).
Organiser, Richard Williams, said “A lot of people think West Swindon is a great area to live in with so much green space, but it would be even better if it wasn’t for the litter that a few leave. But rather than moan about it we want to make a positive difference by removing some of the litter”.
With the full support of Swindon Borough Council, who provided the pickers, sacks and high visability jackets, this should be just the beginning of a regular event.
“Yes we’ll be back in June with more volunteers”, said Richard “I’m sure there will be more litter to pick up..but we’d all hope for not too much”
