Ridgeway School student, Nathan Huynh, 15, who lives in Swindon and rides for local cycling team Cotswold Veldrijden, finished first in the National Isle of Man Youth tour.
This is a stage race comprising of 3 different distances over 3 days with some past winners going on to ride for professional teams.
The first section was a very short prologue time trial with Nathan finishing 3rd in a time of 1 minute 48 seconds.
Event two was a road race around some of the rolling hills of the Isle of Man. Nearly 70 riders started the event with Nathan staying very close to the front to cover any breaks and to stay out of any trouble. The second half of the race saw Nathan driving the group with the aim of splitting it up, this worked and a group of about 20 went clear.
He continued to be very active throughout, trying again to break the group down. A group of 15 eventually contested the sprint finish and although Nathan got a bit boxed in, he still managed to finish 10th place with the first fifteen riders being given the same finish time of 0:59:32. A the end of day two he was in fourth place, knowing exactly what he had to do for Sundays final race.
Race 3 was a short circuit Criterium based close to the sea front. From the gun Nathan was again towards the front of the field, occasionally putting in little attacks. Eventually one attack stuck and a group of four riders broke clear. The four worked well together, even lapping some slower rider. But it came down to another sprint finish and with Nathan getting third in a time of 0:48:21 and a time bonus given to the first six riders Nathan was awarded the title.
