Celebrating all things cycling, Swindon Cycle Fest on 17 July is looking to be a great family day out for everyone from the smallest, wobbliest rider to sporting enthusiasts.
Organised by volunteers with the support of Mitchell Cycles, Swindon Cycles and Swindon Borough Council, the day will take place at the County Ground Athletics Track, which is just behind Swindon Town Football Club’s grounds.
There will be a number of bike manufacturers and local cycling clubs taking part, with a bike sale and a bike jumble sale too. As well as a selection of food and entertainment, including Les Theatre des Bicyclettes, Lapis Lizard face painting and a bouncy castle.
Manufacturers attending will include big names like Kona, Rocky Mountain, Felt, Diamond Back and Raleigh, as well as E-Motion electric bikes, Tomcat special needs trikes for disability and mobility, cargo bikes from Kids and Family Cycles and specialist children’s bike manufacturer Frog Bikes
There will be a Shoretrax MTB course – a portable mountain bike course that can be adapted for different skill levels and abilities.
Wiltshire Police will also be on hand to advise on security and will be offering free security marking.
Bike rides will also take place throughout the day, led by local groups and clubs including Dame Cycles, Darkroom Espresso Cycling Club and MB Swindon. There is also a ladies only ride with Breeze and a family friendly and adapted bike four mile Skyride, which will be on traffic-free roads.
Janice Mitchell of Mitchell Cycles said: “Swindon Cycle Fest is going to be a great day for all the family, whether you’re a beginner with your first bike or a serious competitor.
“There will be lots to see and have a go at, so if you’re not sure what sort of bike would be right for you there will be someone to show you what’s available.”
Becky Cox of Swindon Bicycle Users Group, who is helping organise the event, said: “We are keen to show that cycling can be for everyone, the Swindon Cycle Fest is a fantastic opportunity to see what is on offer locally to help you enjoy cycling too!”
