Twelve months of campaigning and fundraising reached a climax on Wednesday 8 June when Brighter Futures received a cheque for £10,544.11 from Sainsbury’s in Stratton.
The Swindon based charity, dedicated to raising the funds needed to equip a new radiotherapy unit at Great Western Hospital, have for the past year been the store’s Local Charity of the Year, with customers and colleagues alike showing their generosity and support for the cause.
Jennifer Green, Head of Fundraising for Brighter Futures was overwhelmed with the result. ‘£10 and a half thousand takes us right to the cusp of reaching £750k – almost halfway towards our eventual target of £2.9m.’ She was quick to thank Sainsbury’s customers and staff, adding ‘This has been a fantastic partnership for us and we would like to thank everyone involved.’
For Sainsbury’s, Store Manager Val Atwill is delighted with the final figure. ‘What a result! Once again, the hard work of our colleagues combined with the generosity of our lovely customers has combined to produce an amazing figure!’
Already plans are in place to elect a new charity partner, with voting taking place at the store between 13 and 26 June, or online at www.sainsburyslocalcharity.co.uk. The three choices are Youth Cancer Trust, Wiltshire Treehouse (aiding bereaved children) and Uplands Educational Trust.
