South Swindon MP and Remain campaigner Robert Buckland has spoken of his disappointment after the UK voted to leave the European Union last night (Thursday 23 June).
Mr Buckland MP said: “I supported and voted in Parliament for the referendum on our membership of the European Union to take place. Now the British people have made their choice, it is key that not only is the outcome of the vote respected, but that individuals from both sides of the argument now unite to ensure that Britain continues to a thrive and prosper.
“The result was disappointing for me as someone who supported our continued membership of the European Union, but we should all be proud to live in a country where the public is trusted to make big decisions like this. The fact that 76% of people here in Swindon voted is on its own worthy of huge respect and shows that democracy is alive and healthy.
“My friend and colleague Justin Tomlinson MP and I are united in our determination to continue to work tirelessly and positively for Swindon following the referendum result.”
