More than 6,000 residents across the borough of Swindon now have access to superfast broadband, courtesy of Superfast Swindon.
The network is being provided by UKB Networks, who were awarded the contract following an open procurement process after Swindon Borough Council and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport each agreed to invest up to £1.5m of funding to extend superfast broadband coverage in non-commercially viable areas.
The first part of the network is now live and available to residents and businesses in Highworth, Chiseldon, Central Swindon, Old Town, West Swindon and East Swindon.
The network will be extended to include Bishopstone in July, while people in South Marston, Wroughton, Wanborough and Alexandra Park will be able to access the superfast broadband service in August.
Superfast broadband speeds of at least 24Mbps will be available to customers enabling recipients to stream HD movies, download music in seconds, interact with businesses and stay in touch with family and friends via video calls. Businesses will be able to enjoy improved efficiency and better communications with customers.
Residents and businesses can buy the new service through a series of resellers whose packages and pricing are now available from www.superfastswindon.com
Superfast Swindon will be hosting a Family Fun Day on Saturday, 11 June at The Parade Shopping Centre between 9am and 4pm, with free family activities such as a bouncy castle, surf board simulator, coconut shy and face painting. The Superfast Swindon resellers will be on hand so residents can learn more about the different broadband packages and pricing available.
