Sandie Mulcahy from RWE npower’s office in Swindon hosted a celebration evening with friends in support of Macmillan’s first ever national ‘Summer Lights’ fundraiser, raising over £150 on 25 June.
The nationwide fundraising event encourages people to celebrate the loved ones who ‘light up their lives’ by holding a Summer Lights get together, indoors or out, using decorative lights as a key focal point. The idea is for people to invite family and friends over for nibbles and drinks, or dinner – however they like to celebrate, in exchange for a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support.
Sandie invited family, friends and colleagues who are or have been affected by cancer to her garden party, and despite the rain, they all enjoyed a relaxing evening of posh nibbles and plenty of wine. The garden was decorated with sparkly fairy lights, glowing candles and colourful lanterns and balloons.
She said: “It was a perfect excuse to invite some dear friends to enjoy a glass of wine whilst parting with their hard-earned cash. I’ve had an enormous amount of fun hosting this evening and even more fun decorating the garden space with beautiful lights – each one representing hope, support, love and friendship”.
“Macmillan is a wonderful charity, and offers a fantastic range of support to people affected by cancer. Summer has only just started so it’s not too late to hold your own Summer Lights Party and you can create a wonderful atmosphere with a few tea lights, candles and friends.”
Fellow colleague and npower’s head of community, Clare McDougall who joined in the evening celebrations, said: “I’m so proud of each and every colleague who took part in their own Summer Lights party for Macmillan this year, From a team of 132 hikers joining in the celebrations at the campsite at the foothills of the Yorkshire Three Peaks last weekend, to our team of graduates hosting an evening of music, to individuals like Sandie hosting their own parties at home.
“With thoughts of those that ‘light up our lives’ in our minds, we’ve all celebrated and enjoyed time with our nearest and dearest to help raise funds to provide support for people affected by cancer.”
