More than 40 local Rock Choir members from Marlborough, Royal Wootton Bassett and Wroughton will be taking to the stage with ‘The Voice’ himself on Thursday 28 July at the Wyvern Theatre, Swindon.
Choir Leader Kate Benson, who runs fun, weekly sessions in the surrounding area, said “The Rock Choir members are so excited to be performing with Russell Watson it’s a once in a lifetime experience!”
Russell has always been a strong supporter of community choirs, especially after his time as a judge on the BBC prime time show ‘Last Choir Standing’. Russell enjoyed being part of the show immensely and as a result, last year’s Up Close & Personal tour featured local community choirs at each show. Following the success of the choirs last year, Russell is once again inviting local Rock Choir members to join him on stage.
“Last year’s choirs brought an added energy to the show, something you can only achieve when a range of voices come together as one, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to perform with local choirs once again this year” said Russell.
Founder and Director of Rock Choir, Caroline Redman Lusher said “It was amazing to be asked to be asked once again to support Russell Watson on tour. He is a great British artist wowing audiences up and down the country with his tremendous voice and showmanship and for Rock Choir to be performing on stage with him is a real honour.”
Rock Choir is the UK’s largest contemporary choir, with in excess of 23,000 members in over 320 local communities. There are no auditions and no requirements to read music or have any previous singing experience. Rock Choir members get together each week to attend fun, friendly rehearsals where they are taught specially arranged pop, rock and chart songs. There are lots of exciting performances throughout the year and many of them help raise money for charity.
