One of Swindon’s oldest cycling clubs, Swindon Wheelers, will be raising money for the Brighter Futures appeal at Swindon Cycle Fest next month.
The club will be holding a table top bicycle and accessories sale offering new equipment, water bottles and clothes – as well as a select number of bicycles – at reasonable prices. As all goods have been donated, all proceeds will be going directly to the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal.
Swindon Cycle Fest, which has been organised by Mitchell Cycles, Swindon Cycles with the support of specialist volunteers and Swindon Borough Council, will take place on Sunday 17 July at the County Ground Athletics Track.
The day will include demonstrations and the opportunity to have a go on different types of bicycle, as well as lots of family fun with a bouncy castle and food and drink stalls. A number of cycling clubs, including Swindon Wheelers, will be on hand to tell people more about what the clubs offer local cycling enthusiasts and the benefits of joining.
Swindon Wheelers’ member Mandy Martin, who has organised the sale, said: “All the money raised from the sale will be donated to Brighter Futures as it is such an important local cause. We have been given a lot of brand new, quality goods to sell, including clothes and bikes.
“The Swindon Wheelers club will also be attending to tell people about what we do, where we ride and how to get involved. We’re a very fun and friendly club – I joined last year and had never cycled before but have been welcomed with open arms.”
Swindon Wheelers, formed in 1923, is open to cycling enthusiasts of all abilities, from complete beginners to competitive athletes. The club meets every Saturday, with additional mid-week rides throughout the summer.
