Wiltshire Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed an assault on a man in Swindon to come forward.
The incident happened around 12.20am on Tuesday 16 August 2016 on the path which runs from Wharf Green (town centre) to Cambria Bridge Road.
The 36-year-old man from Swindon suffered serious head injuries in the assault and is currently in a critical but stable condition in Southmead Hospital, Bristol.
Det Insp Simon Childe said: “This was a serious assault on a 36-year-old man; I would like to appeal to those individuals directly involved in this incident to come forward.
“Also, if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious on this path at this time, please contact me to help with our enquiries.
“Understandably, incidents like this will cause concern amongst the local community. I would like to reassure residents that crimes like these are not that common and we are conducting a thorough and robust investigation in to the incident.”
