A new oven made possible by a £1,000 donation from Nationwide is making life easier for staff and volunteers who run the popular Olive Tree Cafe at Manor Garden Centre in Cheney Manor.
Manager Phyllida Richards, said: “This grant from Nationwide’s community fund has made all the difference. Before we had a small baking oven and we were using it for everything – specials, baking, cooking our main menu through the day.
“It meant lots of people were trying to do things in a small space and we were not able to keep up with customer orders – frustration all round.”
With advice from catering professionals and a further donation from the Rotary Club charity ball a combi oven has now improved both working conditions and the quality of food offered.
Phyllida added: “We get wonderful customer feedback who say they love the breakfasts we offer as well as the cakes. It’s great to pass such comments on in the kitchen.”
The cafe supports people recovering from mental illness or at risk of suffering mental illness by providing them with positive, work-related opportunities.
