We are seeking to appoint a capable media maker with a commitment to using media for social development to deliver a key programme of activity this year.
Working in partnership with Voluntary Action Swindon, the Council for Voluntary Service for the local area, the role will be to co-ordinate and successfully realise five media projects by and for a range of community groups in the Swindon and North Wiltshire area. You will be involved in meeting with groups, identifying their key aims and issues, training them to translate these into an effective media messages, then working with them to produce a community media production.
The post will combine training, support, hands-on production and project management in order to meet the aims of the groups and the aims of Viewpoint Community Media.
The post-holder will co-ordinate the main delivery of the project objectives. The aims of the project are:
1. An increased number of community groups in our area are enabled to make media that advances their aims and objectives. We expect that these will primarily be videos, but they may also be audio programmes or other media forms if relevant.
2. Community groups involved will participate in the design and planning of their media messages so that the results adequately reflect their aims and values.
3. Members of community groups better understand the use of media and are able to use that understanding to inform their future activities.
4. Community groups will be more empowered and feel more confident and able to tackle the issues they feel are important to the local community.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
A good understanding of design and production of media texts such as videos.
Practical ability with media production equipment including video and audio recording techniques.
Understanding and experience of media editing techniques and software.
An understanding of Community Development practice and participatory working.
Well developed interpersonal skills with ability to communicate well with a range of people in a collaborative, consultative and non-judgmental manner.
Knowledge of safe and sound media production working practice with a range of users.
The ability to engage, motivate and empower people.
Ability to work creatively on own initiative and as part of a team.
Good communication and presentation skills.
Sound organisational, project management and ICT skills.
Ability to develop good professional working relationships.
Ability to gain the trust and respect of co-workers and key partners
Character and other requirements:

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
Experience of communicating and working within communities and / or with community & voluntary sector organisations.
Experience of developing projects and activities with and for a diverse range of people.
Experience of partnership working and enabling others to achieve common goals and positive outcomes.
Formal or informal training in Community Development practice.
Publicity skills such as social media, liaising with press and writing press releases.
Experience of project initiation, implementation, monitoring, review and reporting.
Experience of working with vulnerable people, older people and disadvantaged groups.
Experience of working within a Swindon neighbourhood or community of interest or identity.
