Toothill Big Local (TBL) is holding a community appraisal event on Saturday 17 September, 10am to 4pm, at Toothill Farm Centre, Bodiam Drive, Toothill.
TBL is a committee tasked with spending £1 million allocated to the area by the national lottery. It will be holding four consultation events in September and October to consider options for a major investment in local facilities.
In a statement, TBL says: ‘Following research that we undertook locally about what residents hoped the project would achieve, we found that they overwhelmingly told us three things. They want:
• Things to do
• Places to do them
• People to do them with
‘We know residents want us to provide the area with community facilities that are fit for the 21st Century that will not only improve the life of residents now, but also function in a way that will not only be sustainable but provide a legacy for Toothill, continuing the project beyond its 10 years and enabling it to still fund small projects, events and scholarships.’
TBL has three options to discuss with residents:
• Upgrading the existing community centre at Toothill Village Centre;
• Replacing the community centre at the village centre with a new building;
• Relocating the community centre to a new building on the Toothill Farm site, with associated sports facilities such as a 5-a-side football pitch and a basketball court.
A further three drop-in consultation events to discuss these ideas will be held at West Swindon Library in the Link Centre on:
Tuesday 20th September 10am – 2pm;
Saturday 1st October 10am – 2pm;
Tuesday 4th October 4pm – 7pm.
Residents and anyone who is interested in this project are welcome to attend these events to find out more and comment on the proposals.
In July Swindon Borough Council ward councillors for Toothill revealed that TBL were proposing that the existing community centre be demolished and the village centre site be redeveloped for housing and a new community centre be built at sports facilities at Toothill Farm. Read more
