The achievements of Wiltshire Police volunteer Jurek Wozniak have been recognised across the south west at the regional Special Constabulary and Police Support Volunteers’ Annual Awards.
The ceremony which took place on Sunday 9 October at the Hilton Hotel, Bournemouth, celebrates the massive contribution special constables and volunteers make, and the added value they bring to policing across the south west.
A Police Support Volunteer is a non-attested, non-uniformed volunteer who gives their free time in support of the Police Service.
Wiltshire Police nominated Jurek as he is a key member of the Trowbridge and Warminster Community Policing Team, supporting front line operations and assisting the Force to break down language barriers with our Polish Community through local translation.
Jurek, who has been volunteering with Wiltshire Police since November 2008, saw volunteering as a way of getting more involved in his local community.
He has been involved in streaming and redesigning how Wiltshire Police share information across the Community Policing Team which has been a benefit locally and Force wide.
Jurek’s quality and dedication are a real asset to the community policing team and the Force.
Jurek said: “I was both surprised and pleased to have been nominated for this award. I was even more surprised that I was fortunate enough to win, as I was up against several equally deserving volunteers.
“It was of course an honour to receive this award, just being chosen as Wiltshire Police’s nominee was rewarding in itself. It shows that volunteers are valued and appreciated by the Force.
“I’d like to thank those who nominated me, and all those who supported my nomination with their kind and generous testimonials. Thank You”
Sergeant Louis McCoy said: “I had the pleasure of attending the ceremony with Jurek and I am really pleased that he has won the award.
“Jurek is a key part of our team and he is not seen as a volunteer but as one of the policing family. Having worked with Jurek for the past 10 months, I have seen the time and dedication he devotes to supporting our Community Policing Team and it is only right that he is recognised for this work.”
Police and Crime Commissioner Angus Macpherson said: “These regional awards are a great opportunity to learn about the fantastic volunteering taking place in police forces across our region.
“We have excellent volunteers working within Wiltshire Police which is exemplified by Jurek Wozniak.
“The work Jurek has done in support of the police and the communities in Trowbridge is very important, and makes a huge difference to officers and members of the public.”
