Swindon Dementia Action Alliance is marking its tenth anniversary by joining forces with local businesses throughout Swindon to host two events during Dementia Action Week.

From 13 May to 19 May, Swindon Dementia Action Alliance (SDAA) hopes to raise awareness around the illness and take action to improve the lives of those affected by dementia.

There will be two events, one of which will celebrate the 10th birthday of the alliance with a party for those living with dementia and their families on Monday 13 May at the Grange Leisure Centre.

Tickets can be booked in advance from Monday 8 April onwards: #sdaabirthdaytickets

The SDAA are also organising an information Expo-style event on Thursday 16 May which Zurich in Swindon are hosting. They are offering two sessions to allow those that may work during the day the opportunity to come along to the twilight session.

Anyone who has an interest in attending is welcome to come and find out more, in a safe place to ask any questions from any of the dozen or so stands that will be present on the day. There will also be Dementia Awareness sessions available to attend at 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Cat Attewell, Community Engagement Officer at Home Instead Swindon, and Deputy Chair for the SDAA has helped to organise the two events during the week.

She said: “These are really exciting local events, demonstrating that our community is dedicated to helping raise awareness about dementia and helping those whose lives are affected by the disease.

“We thought it was fitting to enable those in our local community that might need support, to learn more about the illness and understand the wealth of facilities available to them or their loved ones throughout Swindon.

"There is so much help available that so few know about.”
