Swindon primary pupils boosted by Amazon donation

A Swindon primary school has received a donation of 300 back-to-school kits worth £4,500 from the town's Amazon fulfilment centre.

The donation went to Seven Fields Primary School in Penhill, and the back-to-school kits included backpacks, stationery and toiletries. 

The kits were packaged and delivered by the Amazon team to Year 5 pupils and their teachers, and the Amazon team met the staff and pupils to present them with the kits ahead of the winter term. 

The donation follows a partnership between Amazon and Save the Children, ensuring thousands of students across the UK have access to back-to-school essentials, careers advice and ongoing skills development. 

Amazon has donated backpacks filled with back-to-school essentials to 13,500 school children across the UK, helping to ensure that students from low-income backgrounds can start school ready to learn.

David Tindal, General Manager at Amazon in Swindon, said: “At Amazon, we’re passionate about supporting the education and development of young people in our area. 

"We are extremely proud to support Seven Fields Primary School with this donation and hope the pupils enjoy using the kits as they progress through the school year and beyond.”

Headteacher Gill Young said: "I’d like to thank David and the team at Amazon for this donation, which is a great boost for our pupils and their development as they move forward in the school term. It was a pleasure meeting the team when they arrived to deliver the kits – the pupils are delighted.”

As well as providing support for schools through backpack donations, Amazon employees are offering live, virtual career talks to UK classrooms through the company’s year-round Class Chats programme, part of Amazon Future Engineer. 

Employees working in a range of jobs at Amazon, including technical roles, to marketing, TV production, fashion, and more, will volunteer to share insights from their education, career journey, and their current role with students, helping to expand their horizons about future job opportunities.

Community donations and employee volunteering are two of the ways Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. 

Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than seven million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country. 

Earlier this year, Amazon partnered with Comic Relief to become the official home of the Red Nose. Amazon employees across the UK hosted fundraising activities and together with their customers and partners, raised £2.7 million to support those going through the toughest time of their lives.
