The NHS is reminding people in Swindon that free blood pressure checks are available to the over-40s.
Swindon Borough Council is helping to spread the message that high blood pressure is the largest known single modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) which can lead to heart attacks, strokes and dementia.
CVD causes one in four deaths in England, equivalent to around one death every four minutes, and is a leading cause of disability.
An NHS spokesperson said: "As the condition usually has no symptoms, it’s estimated that 4.2 million people in England have undiagnosed high blood pressure.
"The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get a blood pressure test, which is a free, simple, and a non-invasive procedure.
"If you're aged 40 and over, you can get a free blood pressure check at your local participating pharmacy, without needing to book in advance."
People can find a nearby pharmacy that offers free blood pressure checks by searching “pharmacy blood pressure check” or visiting the NHS website.
