Swindon Borough Council has launched a survey to gather the views of unpaid carers.
A spokesperson said: "In Swindon, there are around 21,000 unpaid carers, who look after a friend or family member who needs help and who cannot cope without their support.
"Unpaid carers can be all ages, and could include children looking after parents or siblings, spouses looking after their husband or wife or even adults looking after an elderly neighbour.
"Their work can include helping with everyday tasks such as getting out of bed and bathing, or emotional support."
The aim of the survey is to help the council understand the needs and priorities of unpaid carers, and is open not just to unpaid carers themselves but also to people who know an unpaid carer.
