Three members of Swindon Croquet Club joined in with Kington Langley (near Chippenham) Croquet Club for a charity One Ball competition in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

One Ball competition is a variant of the traditional game which makes play more challenging.

A fun day was had by all despite cold and extremely windy conditions, with £165 raised for the BHF.

The club also took part in a competition to begin the season.

A spokesperson said: "Traditionally, the South West Federation of Croquet Clubs marks the new season with team Short Croquet tournament over three days at Nailsea.

"Most clubs within the Federation take part with teams of four with some clubs entering more than one team. In 2022, Swindon won promotion to Division 2 and followed this up last year by again winning promotion for the first time to Division 1.

"This year's competition was held in sunny but cool weather with a very tight result with for points covering all the teams. Swindon ended up tying for first place with Nailsea Trendlewood and so the competition ended with a shoot-out at the peg which Nailsea won 1-0.

"So a really good result by Swindon  losing the championship by such a narrow margin. The  Swindon team consisted of Alan Braunton, Tony Mayer (captain), Andy Smith and Harvey Smith. Well done everyone!"
