Royal Wootton Bassett Academy teacher a global inspiration

A teacher at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy is inspiring school staff and young people all over the world.

Nic Wetherall has provided CPD opportunities to colleagues nationally including Peru, South Africa, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Norway, Lebanon, Gibraltar, Thailand, Australia, France and Gambia, Moldova, US, Canada, Bosnia and beyond.
Nic is the founder of both ‘Empowering Young People 2 Change the World’ (#EYP2CtW), a training provider for people in education, and also ‘The Holocaust, Their Family, Me and Us’ project (#HtFMeUs) which is school-based and founded around the award-winning BBC documentary in which families of Holocaust victims trace the stories of their own families.
Nic has had a tremendous amount of support from the BBC, and guests from the documentary such as Robert Rinder coming in to speak to students not only from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy but also to other schools who came to visit.
Nic said: “Yesterday we had an incredible session with Abbygail Field from NUSA - who was amazing on provision for the deaf and hearing impaired, whether in specialist or mainstream settings - and even learners with reduced hearing owing to colds, infection and so on.

"She was wonderful should we ever require such expertise or a contact, and last week a colleague in Lebanon gave a great presentation exploring 'Belong, Believe, Become!' 
"Also our #Kwibuka30 work has already been picked up by three international genocide prevention and human rights orgs - so again, nice to see both Lawn Manor and RWBA marking this anniversary, raising awareness in light touch but meaningful ways aligned to our values and principles
"It’s also noticeable this has been warmly received by the survivor community here in the UK.”
Training courses and the project are continually growing and have just opened new relationships and opportunities with The Salsburg Global Seminar - and colleagues at the WISE Prize for Education, Teach for All and NCEE, as well as OECD and their global Senior Education Advisor and regional team.
The ‘#HtFMeUs’ project continues to grow and flourish with it being welcomed into schools across England, with the current government and key opposition party stakeholders interested in learning more about the project, scalability, reach, training, and wider innovation.
Pears and UCL are also keen to support a training package and with international school’s partnerships in France, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Lithuania (the country’s most closely associated with the project families’ respective stories).
