Swindon Carers Centre is asking members of the public to help raise awareness of unpaid carers, highlight the challenges they often face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities across Swindon.

Carers Week is an annual national campaign which support carers to look after their loved ones well, while recognising that they are individuals with needs of their own; the focus of this year’s week is Let’s raise our voices together and help make carers visible’

Carers Week launches on Monday 8 June with a week of themed fun activities the whole community can take part in with their friends and families (virtually!), that culminates in our annual Walk A Mile challenge, which this year will be a virtual Steps to Success sponsored walk on Saturday 13 June. Money raised will greatly benefit unpaid carers of all ages and support them to have a quality of life alongside their caring role. You can donate through our Just Giving Page www.justgiving.com/campaign/WalkAMile or you can print off a sponsorship form from our website www.swindoncarers.org.uk/join-in-with-carers-week-2020/ or contact Swindon Carers Centre to receive one via the post.

Susanna Jones, Chief Executive of Swindon Carers Centre, says: “The current Covid-19 crisis and lockdown has highlighted how vital it is to support unpaid carers who are lifelines to the family and friends they care for.  Carers often find it challenging to take time to care for their own wellbeing and the current stresses will be impacting further.  It’s hugely important we recognise and acknowledge what they do and enable carers to feel supported in their roles.”
