Further 377 people in UK die of coronavirus - as PM announces further easing of lockdown

At the daily government briefing, Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the death of 377 more patients who were positive for Covid-19 in the UK.

The new fatalities mean that a total of 37,837 people have now died from coronavirus.

He announced that from Monday six people can meet outside, including in private gardens. He added that different households must still observe a two metre distance.

The PM confirmed that, by being able to adjust the lockdown with "cautious" changes, primary schools and nurseries can reopen from Monday - with Reception, Year 1 and 6 children returning.

From 15 June, some secondary school pupils will be able to return.

Non-essential retail will also be allowed to open from the middle of next month, if the five tests are still being met.

As of 9am on 28 May, there have been 3,918,079 tests, with 119,587 tests on 27 May.

269,127 people have tested positive.

As of 5pm on 27 May, of those tested positive for coronavirus in the UK, 37,837 have died. This new figure includes deaths in all settings, not just in hospitals. The equivalent figure under the old measure would have been 30,391.

A total of 449 people are currently Covid-19 positive in Swindon, with 523 in Wiltshire.

It was earlier reported that there no further deaths from Covid-19 have been reported by the NHS at  Great Western Hospital in the past 24 hours.

The total number of Covid positive patients who have died at GWH since the start of the outbreak remains at 114.
